Greeting

Greeting from the founder of JSSWC

Over the last decade, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has promoted the establishment of an official "Board-Certified Medical Specialist" system, in order to improve the quality of medicine in all medical fields.

Board-Certified Specialists in each of specialty fields are experts in diagnosing and treating diseases relevant to their specialist areas. The "Plastic Surgery Specialist", as one of the 17 fundamental specialties nominated by the "Japanese Board of Medical Specialties", covers a wide-ranging field from congenital anomalies and birthmarks, trauma and scars, pressure ulcers and other chronic ulcers, skin tumors, reconstruction of various tissue and organ defects, facial deformities and aesthetic surgery, etc.

Of particular importance is the need for plastic surgeons to be well trained in highly-specialized surgical techniques required for the treatment of various skin injuries, defects and disorders. A plastic surgical specialist also should have all the knowledge and techniques to manage a wide variety of wounds and it is most often appropriate to deem one as a "Specialist in Surgical Wound Therapy".The Japan Society for Surgical Wound Care (JSSWC) was established in 2008 as one of the academic societies stemming from plastic surgery with the aim of producing a "Wound Care Specialist" who can treat a wide range of wounds; from acute trauma to chronic problems such as pressure ulcers, chronic leg ulcers and diabetic ulcers, etc.

We will make all possible efforts to develop optimal wound healing and care practices from the standpoint of surgeons in order to produce the much desired "Wound Care Specialist".
